Thank you for your interest in submitting your work for consideration to ICM Photography Magazine (ICMPhotoMag).

Article Submission Requirements

The magazine is expanding in its scope and now accepts article content in celebration of redefining ICM as Intentional Creative Moments. What this means is that creative techniques above and beyond simple ICM (intentional camera movement) as traditionally defined are being featured and showcased in this publication.

We are also streamlining the submission process into one form, and we are now accepting article content in the following categories:

Category #1 ~ Camera-Based Creative Processes (this means images created primarily in the camera)

  • Intentional Camera Movement (as traditionally defined) - whether that is with a DSLR/Mirrorless camera or with a Mobile Device
  • Multiple Exposure ICM (ME ICM) Techniques In-Camera - defined as using ICM for all exposures of the Multiple Exposure sequence
  • Creative Multiple Exposure Techniques In-Camera - creatively using ME techniques that may involve ICM but may also include or be combined with sharper elements

Category #2 ~ Creatively Processed Images of Camera-Based Images

  • This means creative processes outside the camera were used in the image-making process. This does NOT mean, however, that the images were created solely outside the camera. Images must start as camera-based images. No AI and no computer generated abstract imagery allowed.
  • Pushing camera-based ICMs, Multiple Exposures, and ME ICMs, as well as certain types of single-exposure abstract creative images further by layering and blending them using creative processing techniques beyond the camera in Photoshop, for example.
  • The intention here is that the basis for the image should begin with a camera-based creative process which is then pushed further through layering, blending, and creative processing techniques.

Category #3 ~ Alternative Processes

  • Many Alternative Processes inherently lend themselves to the idea of Intentional Creative Moments for their more in-depth, immersive, and considered approach to creativity.  Thus, we are providing space for celebrating the work of photographers and creatives using alternative processes, with a particular interest in processes that are more environmentally safe, such as:
    • Cyanotypes
    • Anthotypes
    • Lumens
    • Chemigrams
    • Salt Prints
    • Microscopy
    • Chromotography

Category #4 ~ Blending of Digital & Analog Processes

  • Images created by combining any of the processes listed above, for example Blending ICM & Cyanotypes through layering techniques in Photoshop, or combining Category #1 or #2 with Category #3, for instance.

Category #5 ~ Creative Expression with Additional Processes

  • Images created using other creative processes will be considered on a case-by-case basis.  This includes creatively layering and blending ICMs/MEs/ME ICMs/Creative Abstracts with other artistic processes that may not necessarily be limited to:
    • Acrylic/Watercolor/Oil/Ink/Pastel Painting
    • Monoprints with a Gel Plate
    • Digital Collage Methods
    • Flat Lay
    • Scanography

The important element with these types of images for Category #5 is that they involve the concept of Intentional Creative Moments through a considered approach to creativity beyond traditional photographic techniques which result in straight-forward visual representations.  There is also an element of...and a connection with...creative photography and handmade processes within this category.

If after reading through the information above you are still interested in submitting your work for consideration in an upcoming issue of the e-magazine, these are the submission requirements:

1 - A written article about your subject and imagery (minimum of 800-1000 words). ICMPhotoMag is especially interested in articles that make connections between creative/abstract photography and art in general. Understanding how to write about your creative work is a valuable tool and helps you develop your own artistry more deeply. Especially well-written and thoughtful articles will receive priority consideration.  Written articles that do not meet the minimum word requirement will not be considered.

  • SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT DOCUMENTS - Word files and PDFs are the only acceptable format. Pages files are   specific to MAC and Apple products, and we are a PC-based organization.  No .pages files, please.

2 - Images - Up to 20 SPOT-FREE ICM jpeg images that your article is based around.  Images must be at least 2000px on the long side, no watermarks or logos, no frames, and no borders.  We will make a selection of preferred images for publication among those provided on the submission form.  For more than 10 images, they must be submitted in two separate blocks (the form only allows 10 images per block).  Images must be SPOT FREE in order to be published.  If images contain spots on them, they will NOT be accepted.  Please do your due diligence to ensure your images are publication ready when making your submission.  The acceptable standard for images in this magazine is that all images must be free of spots.

3 - Titles and/or descriptions of your images

4 - Professional photo of yourself - snapshots and poor quality headshots are not acceptable

5 - Short bio and artist statement

6 - Links to your photography website and/or all social media platforms

PLEASE NOTE:  If your submission does not meet the submission requirements, it will not be considered.  It is important, therefore, that you fully understand the requirements and that your submission does not fall short for consideration.

Where to Submit

The preferred method for submissions is via this link –

ICMPhotoMag Article Submission ~ Google Form Submission

I do not generally accept unsolicited submissions outside of the Submission Form, unless I am already familiar with your work.  If for some reason the Submission Form does not work for you, please send an email to [email protected] to let me know, along with a link to where your creative work can be viewed so that I can gauge the quality of your work, and we can then discuss how to move forward from there with a submission via another method.

Once I’ve had a chance to review your submission, I will be in touch to discuss the options for when it might be possible to have your work published.  However, please note that it may be several weeks before I'm able to get back to you regarding your submission.

Pay for Published Content

ICM Photography Magazine pays photographers for their accepted and published content.

Currently, payments for accepted and published content is $175 USD.

You will, of course, also receive, for free, the issue where your featured photographer content is published.  If you have paid for an annual subscription, the payment for your content will be adjusted to reimburse you for the particular issue where your work is featured based on your subscription price.

I feel it is imperative to compensate photographers for their published work.  It has always been a hallmark of this project to be a benefit to the photographers and creatives appearing in the magazine first and foremost.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions or concerns about anything.

Thank you for your time and interest in being a part of this project.

Regards,
Stephanie Johnson
